Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1/2 cup ice water (more if necessary)

For the Beef Filling:

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped

1 tsp allspice

1 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 cup beef broth

1/4 cup green onions, chopped

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a large bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and turmeric. Add the cold cubed butter and mix with your hands or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

      - Gradually add the ice water, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add more water a tablespoon at a time. Shape the dough into a disc, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

        Make the Filling:

          - In a large skillet, heat the cooking oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

            - Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.

              - Stir in thyme, allspice, cayenne, salt, pepper, beef broth, green onions, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for about 10 minutes until most of the liquid has evaporated. Allow the filling to cool.

                Roll Out the Dough:

                  - Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

                    - On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut out circles approximately 6 inches in diameter.

                      Assemble the Patties:

                        - Place about 2 tablespoons of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.

                          Bake:

                            - Place the assembled patties on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

                              Serve:

                                - Allow them to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Jamaican Beef Patties warm, as a snack or main dish!
